According to the Maryland Materials Playgrounds website, flat slides are formed from polyethylene structural foam, using double-wall construction. For residential use, flat slides attach easily to play structures, using standard slide tools. Varieties of flat slides include flat-bed, multi-bed and scoop slides. Flat-bed slides are standard, straight playground slides. Multi-bed slides function as two or three flat-bed slides molded together. These slides allow two or more riders to go down the slide in their own lanes. Scoop slides are easily customized with snap-together pieces, allowing adjustment of the slide to make it compatible with the length of the play structure it is attached to.
Wave slides are similar to flat bed slides, but they feature bumps and dips on the way down, according to the Playset Parts website. These slides are designed using the same basic structure as a flat slide, with double-wall construction. They come in sizes adapted to a 48-inch, 60-inch and 72-inch residential playset deck.
A number of spiral and tube slides are on the market. These slides provide children with a twisting ride down. Tube slides often are covered, allowing children to slide through a large tube on their way to the bottom. According to the Maryland Materials Playgrounds website, these slides also feature a 300-degree spiral turn and are available in closed and open varieties.
