DIY Fire Ring

Your home is where you can go in the evenings and on weekends to relax and enjoy yourself. It's an added benefit when you also have outdoor rooms to take advantage of at night. It only takes a small amount of labor to create an area with a campfire where you can enjoy family and friends under the stars. You can also roast hot dogs and marshmallows. Campfires turn a plain yard into a wonderful retreat.

Choose a place in your yard that is away from structures and trees. A spot in the lawn away from the house is ideal.

    • 2

Use a shovel to dig a shallow bowl in the yard 2 1/2 feet wide for the fire pit. Taper from the edges to 6 inches deep in the center.

    • 3

Place 8-inch rocks (25 to 30 of them) close together just inside the lip of the fire pit, making a tight circle of rocks for the edge.

    • 4

Put newspapers in the middle of the pit, place kindling on the paper, and stack some wood on the kindling. The pieces of wood should lean against each other, leaving air holes so the fire will draw.
