Look out from your house, deck or patio to find potential sites for a birdbath. Consider placing the birdbath where you can observe the birds. It's fun to see the birds fluff their feathers and splash the water with their wings while bathing.
Attract birds by locating the birdbath near bird feeders, or trees and shrubs frequented by birds.
Make birds feel safe. Locate the birdbath near shrubs or trees. This allows the birds to look out for predators before drinking or taking a bath. Afterwards, they can perch on a branch and preen their feathers.
Choose a flat surface or create one using a shovel. Put the birdbath on top of flat pavers to stabilize it. Place the birdbath in the middle of the lawn or in a garden bed.
Locate the birdbath in a shady or partly shady area if you live in a hot or very warm climate zone. In cooler parts of the country, locate the birdbath in sunny or partly shady places for best results. Note that water will evaporate faster in a sunny location.
