How to Make Bird Feeders From Plastic Containers

There are many ways to recycle plastic containers, such as old milk jugs. If you are a bird watcher, or have children you would like to educate on the importance of recycling and the beauty of nature, building this bird feeder is a fun and simple project that only takes an hour. Best of all, this feeder can be made with materials you have at home.

Things You'll Need

  • Empty milk jug or plastic container
  • 3 feet of thin wire
  • Scissors
  • Permanent marker
  • Bird seed

Instructions

      Wash and rinse the milk jug, inside and out. Dry thoroughly.

      Draw two circles measuring about six inches around and three inches from the bottom of the jug on either flat side of the jug, using the permanent marker.

      Cut out the holes using the scissors.

      Remove the cap from the jug and wrap part of the wire securely around the mouth of the jug. Leave two or two and a half feet of the wire loose to use as the hanger.

      Fill the jug up to the holes with bird seed. Replace the cap and hang the feeder from a hanger or tree branch.
