Instructions

Dress up the front door. If you don't have a front porch or much room on the front steps, simply painting the door can produce positive results. Take an accent color from your interior decor and paint the door in that color. For example, if your accessories are blue, paint the door a dark blue. Consider a wreath as well. Purchase or make a wreath to match the color on the door. Add a cheerful welcome mat.

Create an outdoor sitting area. Position an outdoor bistro set on your front porch, and place a potted flowering plant on the table. Another option is to place a bench in front of your front window and a potted plant to one side of the bench. Even if you never use your sitting area, it will create curb appeal.

Position a flowering container on either side of the door or the front porch steps. The flowers will add instant color and charm to your front door entryway. Geraniums and snapdragons are practical choices. Besides blooming all year long in warmer climates, these plants are attractive and low-maintenance.

Add cheer to your dressed-up entryway with a bird- and butterfly-friendly garden. Plant your garden to one side of your porch or front steps near the front door. It does not have to be a big garden. A few plants and a birdbath can add interest and color to your front door entry. Snapdragons are an ideal choice because they attract hummingbirds. If you like butterflies, include zinnias and marigolds.
