Southwestern Yard Decorations

Southwestern landscaping tends to be minimalist with low-maintenance, water-conserving gardens. Unfinished wood furnishings, stones and rustic accessories are often used to decorate yards southwestern-style.
  1. Old West Décor

    • Some elements of southwestern-style yard decorations have an Old West feel. These may include wagon wheels, rustic gates and bleached cow skulls.

    Metal Yard Art

    • Metal yard art may also be used to decorate southwestern style. Small metal statues may be placed in the lawn, garden or rock garden. Statue images often depict cacti, iguanas, coyotes, cowboys and armadillos.

    Rock Gardens

    • Due to the lack of water, gravel and rocks are frequently used to decorate yards. Gravel paths and groupings of rocks and stones are used to create rock gardens. Unfinished wood benches are popular and may be placed amongst the rocks in the garden.

    Earthen Pottery

    • Terracotta pots can also be used for a southwest feel. Fill the pots with cacti or other desert plants.
