• Plan one or more areas of your yard to be a living and growing showpiece. Line a rose garden with shorter plants instead of using a border. Plant bulbs and seeds that grow and bloom at different times to have a continuously-blooming garden spot. Plant vines and ornamental trees, as well as flowers, that attract hummingbirds and butterflies.

Wooden Cutouts

Recycle Lawn Art

• Turn junk into unique lawn art. Paint an old tricycle, toy baby carriage or wagon. Paint designs on the outside of last year's hanging planter baskets. Sand and paint that old clothesline post, then hang birdhouses or planters from it.
