Yard Art Fence Ideas

Yard art has an old-fashioned feel because most designs are handmade and utilize found objects. The idea is that you take old or discarded products and find new uses for each one in your yard. When it comes to fencing, you simply need products that are tall enough to create a border between your yard and the road or your neighbors. Yard art fence ideas are simple things you can do in a weekend or even a single day.
  1. Bowling Ball Fence

    • Old bowling balls have a round shape, similar to the gazing balls sometimes found in gardens and yards. The difference is that bowling balls are often cheaper and have three drilled holes. The first step is to find a base for each bowling ball, such as a concrete pedestal. Spray paint each bowling ball to give it a new look and hide its existing design. Arrange the pedestals around the edge of your lawn and sit a bowling ball on top of each with the finger holes pointing down. Glue the balls down, which keeps people from picking up the balls and moving them around, and ensures that the balls do not move during inclement weather. String simple pieces of wire or wood fencing between each pedestal to give the fencing some stability.

    Take the Bedroom Outside

    • Scour thrift stores, flea markets and yard sales for old headboards and footboards. It doesn't matter if the pieces don't match exactly because that gives the fence more dimension and depth. Paint each headboard and footboard a matching color and paint on any design that you like. Arrange the pieces around the yard with the sides touching. Sink the boards' feet into the ground to keep the fence from falling over. Digging holes and pouring concrete in the holes first adds more stability to the fence. Attach one more headboard to the fence with hinges and add a latch to create a gate for your fence.

    Shutter Fencing

    • Old shutters are strong and durable, but homeowners sometimes throw the shutters away or sell them when they change the look of their home. Use the shutters to make a yard art fence. Insert the shutters into the ground on their long sides for a short fence or on their short ends for a taller, privacy-style fence. Use two shutters in a saloon-door style to create a gate for the fence. You can even mix and match the heights of the shutters to create a stair-step effect.
