Patio Paver Art Projects

Patio pavers are inexpensive and durable. Use them to create functional pieces of art for your home and garden. Both children and adults can make projects for a gift, memorial or garden focal point. Pavers come in several different colors including terracotta, rust, gray, white and red. They also are available in many different sizes and shapes including a square, rectangle and octagon.
  1. Painted Patio Paver

    • Children and adults can apply paint to patio pavers as garden art. Several can be arranged into a pathway or placed randomly among the plants in the garden. Paint flowers, bugs or the sun, moon and stars on a patio paver. You can use a painted paver as a memorial marker for a beloved pet. Have children place their hand print on a paver as a lasting memory. Clean and dry the blocks thoroughly before painting and then after decorating, coat with sealer.

    Patio Paver Sculpture

    • Stack patio pavers vertically to create a person or animal. These can be used to welcome guests, as a doorstop or placed in the garden. An octagon shaped paver with a small square block on top can be painted to resemble several different images. Make a snowman by painting pavers white. Paint a face on the square paver and three buttons down the front of the octagon. Tie a small scarf around the neck. Scarecrows, sports players, penquins, turkeys and Santa Claus are other possible ideas.

    Paver Mosaic

    • Design a large or small-scale mosaic with leftover, broken or purchased patio pavers. Create the design on paper first. Determine the way the angles and colors of the pavers will intersect with each other. It can be a circular pattern, using whole pavers in all the available colors or an intricate design that implements broken pieces to create an image. Prepare your area by spreading a layer of gravel in the area in which the mosaic will be laid. You can place a wood frame around the pavers to keep the design from shifting.
