Modern Outdoor Privacy Ideas

Privacy is an important component of landscaping a yard for many homeowners. The aesthetics of a home may require that privacy be naturally created or man-made. A privacy fence may not coordinate with the decor of the home's lawn, whereas a privacy screen could hinder light from flowing freely.
  1. Outdoor Screen

    • An outdoor screen can create an abundance of privacy, all while enhancing the atmosphere of your outdoor space. A screen filters out direct sun, leaving a comfortable shaded area for your patio or lawn. Many shades are treated with ultraviolet (UV) protection to prevent fading and are easily washable. An outdoor screen will create the ideal amount of privacy to prevent the view of outsiders.

    Hedges

    • Use nature to provide privacy by planting evergreen shrubs along the perimeter of your yard. Three-to-five foot hedges are easy to maintain and provide an abundance of privacy for the homeowner. If you want a little color mixed in, look for flowering shrubs. These shrubs may not keep the flowers in the winter but will bloom during the spring.

    Wooden Privacy Fence

    • Wooden privacy fences are the most common forms of privacy for one's yard. A privacy fence takes little to no maintenance if it is stained when installed. These fences can include gates and multiple locations along the border, allowing easy access to the backyard. The fence also prevents outsiders from seeing into your private space.
