Outdoor Decorating With Swags

Identification

• A swag is a bundle of greenery that is typically triangular or diamond shaped. It's adorned with evergreen boughs, ribbons, fruit, pine cones and other elements taken from the outdoors.

Time Frame

• Homeowners usually feature decorative swags around the end-of-the-year holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas, along with wreaths and garlands. However, these decorative pieces can be used and adapted to the seasons. For example, a springtime swag that's hung on the front door might feature evergreens, spring flowers and pastel ribbons. Geography

• Decorative swags look great on the front door, where they draw attention to the door as a focal point. However, would-be outdoor decorators can hang a swag on a front-lawn lamppost, on the frame of an outdoor front porch swing, or around the corners of outdoor windows.
