DIY: Paver Sealing

Pavers are small stone, brick or concrete slabs that are used to make patios, pathways and the like. There are several good reasons to take the steps needed to seal your pavers. First, sealant can enhance the color of your pavers, making them seem more vivid. The seal also gives the pavers a nice shine. Sealant protects the pavers from the impacts of harsh weather and high traffic use. Finally, sealant will help you remove stains from the pavers in the future. If you reseal the pavers every one to two years, you will extend the life and beauty of the pavers for years to come.

Things You'll Need

• Broom
• Spot remover
• Scrub brush
• Hose
• Sealant
• Paint roller
• Paint brush

     Sweep the entire area clean. Rinse with the hose if desired.

     Use the scrub brush and stain remover to get out stubborn or set-in stains before sealing. Rinse with the hose.

     Allow the area to dry fully.

     Apply the sealant with the paint roller or paint brush, depending on what will work best for the size and location of your pavers. Work from the far end and work backwards so that you will not have to cross the wet pavers to go inside when you are done.

     Allow the pavers to dry thoroughly before applying a second coat, if needed.
