The birdbath serves as a focal point of interest for the homeowner, because it draws birds and insects into the yard. The birds and insects move about can turn a yard-scape into a piece of living art. Birdbaths can be purchase at a home-improvement store, but building one from scratch can add individualism and a whimsical touch to any back or front yard. The materials used for the construction are only limited by your imagination.

Place a good-sized rock in the center of the lid to weight it down. This rock needs to be heavy enough to keep the lid in place when the wind blows and provide the birds with a place to land before and after bathing. The rock should be taller than it is wide to keep the bathing area freed up.
