Butterfly Decor for a Garden

While the plants and flowers of a garden are often beautiful on their own, some gardeners want to enhance their landscapes with decorative items. From plant pots and stakes to statues, lights and more, adding accessories and decorative items with nature-inspired motifs, such as butterflies, can add interest to your garden.
  1. Plant Pots

    • Butterfly garden décor can be useful as well as beautiful. For example, flower pots adorned with butterflies provide a home for container gardens. Ceramic, clay and plastic flower pots can be embellished with hand-painted or stenciled butterflies in custom colors to coordinate with or enhance the flowers in the garden. Plant pots embellished with mosaic tiles arranged to resemble butterflies add elegance and sophistication to a garden space.

    Plant Stakes

    • Plant stakes are another method of incorporating butterflies into your backyard garden. Add small stakes with metal or silk butterflies to window boxes and flower pots for a touch of unexpected whimsy. Use larger stakes to support plants, or simply to add interest to the flower beds. Choose metal plant stakes with painted butterflies, or incorporate the butterflies more subtly with stakes in unpainted metal or cast iron. For a more natural alternative, look for butterfly-themed plant stakes or garden décor made from grapevines, sticks and other natural fibers that blend easily with the plants in your garden. Alternatively, add a garden flag to your flower beds to wave a butterfly-themed decorative flag, or include stone or resin butterfly sculptures in the flower beds.

    Lighting

    • Twinkly white lights can make any garden feel enchanted during the evening, but you can take the enchantment one step further by adding butterfly lights to the garden. Some garden and home supply retailers sell outdoor lights shaped like various motifs, including butterflies. String a length of butterfly lights along a fence, or wrap them around a tree trunk or flower pot. If stringing lights is impractical, light a path through your garden with solar lights, that light up in the evening after collecting sunlight all day. Look for solar light covers featuring butterflies.

    Furniture

    • If you have planted flowers hoping to attract butterflies, it only makes sense to create an area where you can watch the winged creatures fly from bloom to bloom. If your garden has space, add a small area to relax and enjoy the hard work you've put in to your garden. Add some chairs, a small table and decorative accessories with a butterfly theme to complete the butterfly garden motif. For example, adorn a pair of Adirondack or wicker chairs with painted butterflies, or add cushions in a butterfly print pattern. If space is tight, a small garden bench with butterfly-print cushions or pillows provides a comfortable spot to sit and relax.
