Good Evergreen Plant Container

Choosing an appropriate container for the evergreen planting encourages proper performance from the plant. The right container allows room for growth and protection for the growing root system.
  1. Barrel Halves

    • Barrel halves may be transformed into an appropriate, long-term container for the slow-growing evergreen plant. Made of white oak, barrels come with either a new or weathered appearance. Add a rustic feel to the deck or lawn or a more modern look for the contemporary home.

    Size of Planters

    • Wine barrels that hold 59 gallons are cut in half, as are whiskey barrels that hold 53 gallons. Each half is 18 inches tall and may function as a planter by including an inner container to hold the plant. This is particularly useful when overwintering the evergreen container plant outside during cold winters, as it leaves room for insulation between the inner container and the barrel half.

    Stablility of Barrels

    • Barrels do not crack in cold weather as terra cotta planters are prone to do. They are sturdy and long lasting and are an appropriate home for the evergreen planting.
