How to Recycle Bird Feeders

Bird feeders come in a wide variety of styles and colors that make it easy to find a good match for your lawn or garden. They can be as attractive as the birds they lure, however, they rarely maintain their beauty for many years. While bird feeders vary in appearance, they're usually made of materials such as wood, plastic and glass. Since these materials are all recyclable, you can recycle most bird feeders with a minimum of fuss.

Instructions

    • 1

Disassemble your bird feeder as much as you can, if it has multiple parts. Some bird feeders are simply elongated plastic tubes, so this step isn't necessary, but take apart more complicated birdhouse/feeder combinations with the aid of a screwdriver and a hammer. Wear protective gloves to help prevent injury.

Separate the bird feeder components into groups of similar materials, so you have piles of wood, plastic and other components of equal composition.

Take the materials to a recycling center or separate them into the appropriate bins at home if you have a recycling pickup service.
