How to Get Rid of Mulberries in a Yard

Mulberry weed is an invasive plant species that has its roots in Japan and China. Similar in appearance to a seedling mulberry tree, the mulberry weed grows to a height of about 12 inches, prefers shaded, damp areas and is found in many U.S. locations. Successfully control mulberry with herbicide applied correctly and in proper conditions. Ammonium salt of imazaquin herbicide is safe for most grasses and plants.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the top from a 1-gallon garden sprayer. Put on safety glasses for eye protection while mixing the herbicide.

    • 2

Fill the sprayer half full of water. Measure 4 oz. of ammonium salt of imazaquin herbicide with the measuring cup and pour into the spray tank.

    • 3

Fill the tank to the 1-gallon line with water as indicated on the tank. Place the top on the tank securely and shake the tank to mix.

    • 4

Spray the herbicide on mulberry weeds when rain is not forecast. Apply the herbicide when there is little to no wind and the weed is dry.

    • 5

Cover the entire surface of the leaves and stems with the herbicide. Avoid over-spray as much as possible, even though ammonium salt of imazaquin is safe for many grasses and landscape plants. Reduce exposure to the product as much as possible.
