How to Make a Solar Power Yard Light

Crystalline silicon wafers are commonly used in commercial and residential solar panels. They do not generate as much power as GaAs cells but they are less expensive. Making your own solar power yard light saves money. It also requires less maintenance than a traditional yard light. Crystalline silicon wafers can be ordered online or at your local hardware store.

Instructions

    • 1

Attach the positive wire from the crystalline silicon wafer to the positive wire in the rechargeable battery. The wafer and rechargeable battery will be marked.

    • 2

Twist the wires together. Cover the wires with electrical tape.

    • 3

Attach the negative wire from the crystalline silicon wafer to the negative wire in the rechargeable battery.

    • 4

Twist the wires together. Cover the wires with electrical tape.

    • 5

Tape the crystalline silcone wafer to the top of the glass mason jar. Make sure that the panels are facing up.

    • 6

Attach the positive wire from the LED light to the positive wire in the rechargeable battery. Attach the negative wire from the LED light to the negative wire in the rechargeable battery.

    • 7

Twist the wires together. Cover the wires with electrical tape.
