How to Make a Birdhouse With Craft Sticks

If you're looking for an economical way to craft your own birdhouse, consider using craft sticks. Craft sticks are made of wood and resemble popsicle sticks; they are readily found at any craft supply store in pre-cut sizes. Once finished, you can even paint the craft sticks as you would a wooden birdhouse.

Instructions

    • 1

Place 10 to 20 craft sticks onto a sheet of newspaper, and decorate one side of the craft sticks using waterproof latex paint. Allow the paint to dry for 30 minutes.

    • 2

Cut out a 2-inch hole from a 2 quart-sized milk carton using a pen knife. Place the hole 3 inches from the bottom of the carton. Discard the cut out piece.

    • 3

Apply craft glue onto the front of the milk carton, and place the painted craft sticks onto the glue. You can place the craft sticks in a parallel pattern, or you can get creative and place the sticks in a variety of different directions. Allow the glue to dry for 30 minutes.

Repeat this process for the remaining sides and top of the milk carton, allowing the glue to dry for 30 minutes per side.

    • 5

Thread an embroidery needle with thin twine, and insert the needle through one side of the top of the carton. Once the twine is through the other side of the carton, take the needle off and tie the ends of the twine into a knot. You can use the twine to hang up the birdhouse.
