How to Make Lawn Ornament Patterns

If you've got the basics of lawn care down, you may find that decorating your lawn with patterns is an easy way to make your grass stick out from the masses. Those carefully patterned lawns that you see on golf courses and in baseball stadiums are not out of reach. With an easily obtainable lawn roller, you can bend the blades of grass in your lawn so that it takes on a carefully manicured look.

Instructions

    • 1

Adjust the deck height of your lawn mower so that it will cut the grass at a height of 3 inches.

    • 2

Move the mower to one corner of the lawn and then make parallel, slightly overlapping cuts back and forth across the lawn. Make adjacent cuts in opposite directions so that the lawn takes on a striped pattern.

    • 3

Walk the lawn roller over the cuts you have made with the mower. You must walk the roller in the same direction of the cut so that the grass is properly flattened. This will bring out the alternating striped pattern in the lawn.

    • 4

Start up the mower and make one continuous pass around the lawn's perimeter. Once you are finished, walk the roller over the pass to give the lawn a clean-looking border.
