How to Fix or Repair Lawn Mower Wire Equipment Control Throttle Cables

There are plenty of reasons why your lawn mower may be idling too high or running at too high of a top speed, and one of them could be a problem with the throttle cable. The throttle cable connects directly to the engine; for inspection or replacement purposes, you can access it by opening the mower's engine hood or removing the engine shroud. You can replace and fix your lawn mower's control throttle cable even if you lack any knowledge of lawn mower parts and operation.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a riding mower's hood or unscrew and lift off a push mower's shroud to reveal the lawn mower's engine.

    • 2

Observe the throttle cable, which is located on the throttle arm connected usually to the right side of the engine. Use a pair of pliers to pull the cable housings off the base of the throttle cable.

    • 3

Use your hands to detach the throttle cable from the engine's throttle arm now that the housings have been removed.

    • 4

Unscrew the lock screw on the throttle cable's handle using a Phillips screwdriver, then remove the throttle cable altogether.

    • 5

Follow your disassembly procedure in reverse to install the new throttle cable. Ensure that the lock screw has been tightened appropriately after the cable has been inserted. If problems persist, loosen the lock screw slightly and push the throttle cable further into the housing, then tighten the screw once more.
