Belt Routing in Noma Mowers

The drive belt in a Noma mower is crucial to the mower's operations. The drive belt helps govern the engagement of the blades. A loose belt can result in immediate blade shut-down, requiring immediate repairs. You can fit the belt correctly along its route within the Noma mower even if you have no experience with belt troubleshooting and repair.
  1. Preparation

    • Park the Noma mower on a flat, level surface and cut the engine. Find the deck lift lever to the right of the driver's seat and push it down to lower the mower deck.

    Loosening the Idler Plate

    • Look under the deck for the pulley. This pulley can be found near the center of the deck. The drive belt is connected to it, and a spring-loaded idler piece is just beneath. The idler is easily identifiable due to its wheel-shape, and it features a bolt on the top of its plate. Use a socket wrench to twist this bolt counterclockwise to loosen it. Do not remove the bolt completely.

Adjusting the Belt Along Its Route

    • Slide a breaker bar into the single square hole on the spring-loaded idler's plate. Wind the bar clockwise to properly tighten the belt along its route. Continue to wind the breaker bar until you feel resistance. Do not wind beyond this point, otherwise you risk damaging the belt and pulley system.

    Finishing Up

    • Tighten the Noma mower's top idler plate bolt using your socket wrench once more. Pull up on the lift lever beside the Noma driver's seat to raise the mower deck back up.
