Pull the spark plug wire straight off the spark plug to prevent unintentional starting of the mower engine. Place a plastic container under the mower fuel tank. Remove the clamp from the rubber fuel hose on the bottom of the fuel tank with pliers. Pull the hose off the fitting on the tank and let the fuel drain into the container. Replace the hose and clamp once the tank has completely drained.
Pull the engine start cord straight up by the handle slightly, and then move the cord over slightly and out of the eye bolt mounted on the mower handle. Let the cord retract slowly into the top of the mower engine.
Press in on the sides of the blade control lever at the top of the mower handle until the pins in the sides of the lever disengage from the holes in the handle. Remove the blade control cable from the lever by rotating the end of the cable 90 degrees, then sliding the cable out of the hole in the lever. Remove the lever from the handle. Coil the blade control cable on top of the engine.
Loosen and remove the star knob nuts from the base of each side of the mower handle by hand. Press in slightly on each side of the handle, and then lift it straight off the mower deck.
Raise the side of the mower deck upward so that the mower is resting on its side. Hold the cutting blade with a gloved hand while removing the blade-retaining bolts with a socket and ratchet wrench using the other hand. Remove the washer, the blade and the blade adapter from the underside of the mower engine.
Loosen and remove the three engine retaining bolts on the underside of the deck with a socket and ratchet wrench. Place one hand on top of the engine while removing the bolts underneath with the other hand. Lower the deck so that the mower is resting on its wheels. Lift the engine straight up and remove it from the deck.
Place a wrench on the axle bolt at the center of the outside of one of the wheels. Loosen and remove the nut on the opposite side of the wheel under the deck with another wrench. Pull the axle bolt and wheel from the deck and remove it. Remove the remaining three wheels from the deck in the same fashion.
Remove the retaining bolts in the hinged chute bracket with a socket and ratchet wrench. Remove the chute from the mower deck.
Assemble the mower in the reverse order.
