What Replacement Blades Go on My Cub Cadet Rider?

Cub Cadet manufactures several types of lawn and garden equipment, including riding mowers and garden tractors. The company produced the first zero-turn-radius lawn tractor and was the first to replace the stick steering mechanism with a steering wheel. Models vary by engine size and cutting radius, which can range from 42 inches to more than 50 inches. Replacement cutting blades for Cub Cadets are generally available wherever the machines are sold, by mail order and online. Each model has specific part numbers for replacement blades.
  1. Series 1000 Models

    • Cub Cadet Series 1000 riding lawn mower replacement blades have part numbers that usually begin with 742 and end with part of the model number. For instance, LT1045 and LT1046 riding mowers require parts numbered 742-04015 and 742-04016, respectively. The LT1050, however, takes part number 742-04068. This mower has a 50-inch deck and requires three replacement blades, while the others need only two blades. Take the model and serial number with you to buy replacement blades to be sure you get the correct blade.

    Series 2000 Models

    • Cub Cadet 2000 series riding garden tractors have mowing decks that range from 42 inches to 54 inches. The 2145LE, a 54-inch model, has a heavy-duty triple blade cutting system. The part number for these blades is 742-3019 or 759-3825. The 42-inch-cut Cub Cadet 2000 series mower needs two blades and takes part number 742-3018 or part number 759-3830. To order blades or purchase them from the store, make sure you provide the model and serial number of the lawn mower, in case newer model blades are released.

    Zero-Turn Radius Riding Mowers

    • Although Cub Cadet produces several RZT zero-turn-radius riding mowers, the Z-Force 44 and Z-Force 50 use the 748-3020 or 948-3020 replacement blades. Check with your local parts supplier or service center to make sure the replacement blades are labeled as compatible with the model lawn mower you own.

    Tips and Warnings

    • If you do not have the owner's manual for your lawn mower, Cub Cadet offers free downloads on its website. You will need both the model number and the serial number to get the owner's manual.
Before removing the blades for replacement, disconnect the spark plug wires and ground them against the engine, and remove the ignition key to avoid accidental engine start.
On its website, Cub Cadet states that you should use only OEM blades. OEM means original equipment manufacturer. Replacement blades made by other companies for use in Cub Cadet riding mowers are available, but whether to use them is a decision only you can make.
