How to Adjust a Troy Bilt-Wide Mulcher

Many Troy-Bilt mowers have the option of pushing the grass clippings back out onto your lawn as mulch instead of catching the grass clippings for disposal. You can adjust the mulcher on your Troy-Bilt mower and have it in operating condition by removing the grass catcher and altering the mulch plug and rear discharge door. You don't need lawn machine troubleshooting experience to adjust your Troy-Bilt mower.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the Troy-Bilt's grass catcher attachment. Lift the rear discharge door on the bottom of the back of the mower.

    • 2

Unclip the center top of the grass catcher bag from the inside of the mower's frame.

    • 3

Disconnect the grass bag's plastic channel from the hooks that exist on the frame. These hooks can be detached using your hands, also.

    • 4

Pull the grass catcher bag off the mower.

    • 5

Ensure the rear discharge door is still in the upright position. Slide in the mulching baffle until it clicks into place. The mulching baffle is a rectangular plastic piece that comes as standard equipment and inserts vertically into the rear discharge door.

    • 6

      Close the rear discharge door.

    • 7

Ensure that the side discharge chute has been removed from the mower. Find the mulching plug on the left side of the mower, just beside the wheel. It is a dark plastic piece over the frame of the mower that lifts up and closes on a hinge. Lift the mulching plug and slide the side discharge chute's hooks off the hinge pin under the mulching plug assembly.

    • 8

Pull the side discharge chute away from the mower.

    • 9

Lower the mulching plug and ensure the rear discharge door is closed. The mower is now properly adjusted for mulching.
