The air filter covers the engine's air intake, removing dust, pollen and other airborne debris from the air supply before it enters the engine. The air filter comes into its own in the garden when there is plenty of dust in the air from cutting plants or grass. Left unclean, the filter becomes clogged, letting less air through and making the engine hard to start or idle.
The air filter is in a different place on each Poulan Pro garden tool. It can usually be found inside a plastic case on the side of the motor assembly. Open the case by pressing the button on top; the air filter can then be removed ready for cleaning. Don't be tempted run your Poulan Pro tool without its air filter -- you risk sucking something into the engine.
Brush out any dust or debris remaining inside the air filter's plastic case on the side of the motor before turning your attention to the filter itself. Wash the filter in a bucket of warm soapy water; brush off any obstructions or debris in the filter screen with a soft cloth. Allow the filter to completely dry before putting it back inside its casing and starting the motor. The filter should be cleaned after every five hours of operation.
You should replace torn, split or punctured air filters. Stop using the motor as soon as you notice the damage to avoid causing further damage. Contact Poulan Pro to find a filter that fits your particular appliance. Do not use the filter from any other garden appliances.
