Belt Types

• Different belts are available for your Husqvarna mowers, depending on which models you have. It's important to understand this if your troubleshooting instructions read "replace belt.” All Husqvarna tractors and zero turn mowers have belts that operate the mower deck, which operates the cutting blade. If the models are equipped with hydraulic pumps such as the zero turn mowers, the pump motors have EZT belts that assist in transmission. Mowers with transaxle systems have V belts that connect from the engine to the deck.

Replacement

• All belts on Husqvarna mowers are replaceable if they are worn or damaged beyond serviceability. Mower decks have decals that instruct the proper looping of the belts around tensioners, pulleys and clutches as applicable. Some belts, however, have no decal instructions so you must observe their order and follow directions as shown in the operator manual. For example, the motion drive belt on Husqvarna tractor mower models must be installed from the rear to the front first.

Safety

• Before performing any maintenance or belt replacement on your Husqvarna mowers, ensure you follow general safety precautions to prevent injury to yourself or damage to the mower. Belts are often wound through the heaviest mower parts such as the mower deck or engine. To prevent your mower from shifting and moving away while you work, always have your Husqvarna mower on a level surface and set the parking brake. Belts are also attached to hot surfaces, so ensure your mower has cooled down prior to maintenance.

Maintenance and Inspection

• Husqvarna has a maintenance and inspection schedule for its belts. If your mower has a V belt, it cannot be adjusted if it slips. Although it’s normal to see minor cracks on it, replace V belts if they are worn or loose. Inspect your V belt every 100 hours. For all other belts, inspect them after every 50 hours of operation. Clean the belt areas after every operation.
