The Belt Size for a Troy-Bilt 22 String Trimmer Mower

The Troy-Bilt 22 string trimmer mower can mow grass as well as cut or trim bushes, weeds and shrubs. A string is attached to a quickly rotating head that cuts through the desired material. The mower also works as a traditional lawnmower to cut grass. Over time, the belt on your Troy-Bilt 22 may wear out and will need to be replaced.
  1. Belt Size

    • The Troy-Bilt 22 string trimmer mower uses a V-belt. The original belt part number started with “754” but has since been replaced with belt number 954-0343. The V-belt measures 3/8-inch by 31 inches and can be purchased online or in some lawnmower and garden supply stores.

    Accessing the Belt

    • To replace the belt on your Troy-Bilt mower, you need to start with a cool motor that has been shut off. Take out the spark plug wire and hold the wire against the engine to ground it then set a used fuel container under the fuel tank and drain out the gas. Carefully tip the mower back so that the string trimmer is face-up, along with the engine spark plug. Remove the trimmer line from the assembly then use a screwdriver and adjustable wrench to remove the hex nuts, screws and washers around the trimmer deflector. To remove the trimmer deflector, slide the deflector until the assembly goes through the deflector hole. Then you can loosen the wing nuts and push the spindle disc up to the highest setting and tighten it in place. Take out the lock nut that holds in the idler bracket and the idler pulley on the assembly and take out the keeper. You should now be able to access the belt.

    Removing the Belt

    • If the mower belt is clearly cracked or otherwise broken, replace it with a new belt from Troy-Bilt. Slide the belt off the spindle disc then move the belt around the engine flywheel. You can now pull the old belt out of the mower entirely and discard it.

    Replacing the Belt

    • Once the old belt is removed, put the new belt on the engine flywheel then pull the belt around the spindle pulley and spindle. Replace the idler bracket keeper and the trimmer deflector then move the spindle height back to the correct setting. The final step is to replace the spark plug wire onto the spark plug.
