Ensure the John Deere GT275 mower is on a level surface and turn it off. Open the GT275's front engine hood and disconnect the spark plug. Pull the black spark plug wire out of the rear of the plug, located on the top of the engine block and partially inserted within the spark plug hole. Push the deck lift lever on the right side of the mower down to place the deck into its lowest position. Check under the center of the GT275's deck for the plastic belt guard and ensure its bolts are removed. Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts from the guard.
Ensure the belt is tightened by inserting a breaker bar into the square hole on the metal, front plate of the spring loaded idler, which is the part of the pulley located just below the belt. Turn the breaker bar clockwise to tighten a loose GT275 mower belt on the new deck. Tighten the belt until about a 1/2-inch amount of slack is created in the center of the belt.
The pins of your John Deere GT275 must all be properly in place to ensure the deck is securely in place. Check that the first two pins are inserted into the front of the deck via the two pins slots located there. Each pin that you insert must also be held in place by an included spring retainer clip. Move to each side of the GT275's deck and make sure a pin is inserted into each and held down by retainer clips, as well. Finally, ensure a pin is inserted into the clutch gauge on the base of the GT275 deck and also into the pin slot beneath the throttle. Each of these pins must have an attached retainer clip.
The deck suspension arms must be secured to complete the deck switch on the John Deere GT275. There are two suspension arms. Each of the arm brackets are located at the rear of the bottom of the John Deere mower. Insert an arm into each bracket and ensure each is held down in the bracket by a retainer clip.
