How to Install a Pulley on a 928 Snapper Mower

Like most riding lawnmowers, the Snapper SR928 is equipped with a pulley assembly. The pulley keeps the mower’s drive belt in the proper position so it can turn the mower’s blades to cut the grass. If the pulley assembly isn’t working properly, your mower won’t be able to cut any grass until you replace the old pulley with a new one.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the power on your Snapper mower and open the mower’s hood. Pull the lever under the driver’s seat to move the mower into the lowest position. Allow the mower to cool completely before working on it.

    • 2

Place a wrench over the nut on top of the black wire on the right side of the battery. Twist the wrench to remove the nut and wire from the top of the battery.

    • 3

Loosen the screws on the bottom of the drive guard, located next to the drive belt, with a screwdriver. Unscrew the nuts from the idler plate, the circular part between the pulley and belt, with a socket wrench.

    • 4

Note the position of the belt over the pulley and draw a diagram of it if necessary. You will need to reinstall the belt in the same position once you replace the pulley. Move the belt off of the pulley once the position is noted.

    • 5

Unscrew the nut on top of the pulley with the socket wrench then remove the pulley from the mower deck. Mount the new pulley in place and tighten the nut on top of it.

Place the belt back onto the pulley and tighten the idler plate between the pulley and belt. Tighten the screws in the drive guard. Place the black wire back onto the battery and tighten its nut with the wrench.
