Yard Machines Deck Help

Yard Machines mowers are manufactured by the MTD company out of Cleveland, Ohio. It produces 10 push mower and five riding mower models under their Yard Machines product line. Each push and riding mower model is available in various sizes of cutting decks. Most problems that arise with the decks are a matter of being not level or because of issues that arise with the blades that are housed under the decks.
  1. Push Mower Decks

    • Always disconnect the spark plug before servicing any power equipment.

Push mowers manufactured under the Yard Machines brand range in size from 20 to 22 inches in width. They can be self-propelled or push-type mowers. Different types include side-discharge, bagging and mulching decks or three-in-one types. If there are issues with the decks on push mowers, it is likely to be with the blade underneath. Remove the wire to the spark plug prior to investigating. Turn the mower on its side and see if there is an obstruction under the deck such as wet clumps of grass. Clean out all built-up grass underneath the deck. Check the blade for evenness of wear, sharpness and balance. Remove the blade and repair or replace as needed.

    Riding Mower Decks

    • Yard Machines riding mower decks are available in a range of sizes. They range from 38 to 46 inches in width. Unless if you have a zero-turn model, problems with the deck will have to be investigated by driving the riding mower onto a set of ramps to look underneath. Disconnect the spark plug prior to troubleshooting. Riding mowers might have one larger blade or several smaller blades. Approach deck repairs on a riding mower just as you would with a push mower.

    Zero-Turn Mower

    • Yard Machines produces one model of a zero-turn radius riding mower. This mower type has unique features to troubleshoot deck problems. If you are getting an uneven cut, and the problem is not with the blades themselves, there is a function on the mower to re-level the deck by adjusting the side-to-side motion of the deck. If you need to check under the deck for proper blade operation, like the other rider models, you can drive the mower onto ramps and disconnect the spark plug to troubleshoot, or you can raise the mowing deck to look underneath.

    When All Else Fails

    • If you are unable to determine or repair the issues with your Yard Machines mower deck, it might be time to consult a professional repair person. If you purchased the Yard Machines mower from a dealer, you can take it back to the shop for service. Depending on the model, Yard Machines mowers have a one- to two-year warranty.
