How to Use the Hose Attachment on a Craftsman Lawn Mower

Most Craftsman walk-behind mowers and lawn tractors are equipped with a quick release deck wash system, which should be used after every mowing to prevent the buildup of corrosive grass clippings on the underside of your mower deck. Although sluicing the underside of a walk-behind mower is a simple operation, certain safety procedures are called for when cleaning a lawn tractor’s mower deck.

Instructions

  Drive your mower onto a level spot close to a garden faucet stand pipe. Park the mower with the discharge chute facing away from the house.

  Disengage the PTO, set the parking brake and turn the engine off.

  Remove the existing attachment from the end of your garden hose and connect the deck wash hose adapter provided with the mower.

  Pull the adapter’s lift collar upward and push the fitting onto the upward facing brass deck wash nozzle situated on the far left of the mower deck. Push downward until you feel the adapter click into place. Turn the garden faucet on.

  Sit in the tractor’s operating position and start the engine. Engage the PTO lever and open the throttle to the “fast” position. Remain seated for at least two minutes to allow the mower blades to spin and thoroughly sluice down the underside of the cutting deck.

  Pull the throttle lever to the “idle” position. Disengage the PTO and turn the engine off.

  Pull the deck wash adapter’s lock collar upward, disconnect the hosepipe, and replace the original attachment.

  Allow time for the underside of the deck to dry off before stowing the tractor away.
