How to Replace a Cub Cadet 1050 VT Belt

The Cub Cadet LTX 1050 VT is designed after traditional suspended mowing deck lawn tractors. However, the Cub Cadet LTX 150 VT has a V-Town engine built by Briggs and Stratton. This makes the mower capable of easily powering both blades mounted to the mower deck. The LTX 150 VT uses a mower deck drive belt to power the blades from power taken from the PTO pulley extending from the bottom of the engine. When the belt wears out, the engine easily overpowers the belt and forces it to slip on the PTO pulley.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the Blade engagement knob to the "off" position. This stops the PTO pulley, which in turn, stops the mower blades.

    • 2

Move the deck lift lever into the lowest notch on the fender to lower the deck to its lowest position.

    • 3

Remove the belt guard from the PTO clutch pulley with a socket and ratchet. The PTO clutch pulley is mounted under the motor and is accessible from the front of the lawn tractor.

    • 4

Pull the deck belt from the PTO pulley. Manually rotate the pulley while you pull the belt downward and off the pulley.

    • 5

Pull the deck support pins on the right and left side of the mower deck outward to release the lift arms on the deck from the tractor.

    • 6

Pull the pin out of the stabilizer bar on the back of the mower deck to release the back of the deck from the mower. Pull the mower deck out from under the lawn tractor.

    • 7

Remove the belt guards from the mower deck with a socket and ratchet to expose the deck's pulleys.

    • 8

Pull the old belt off the pulley system. If needed, make a diagram of the belt routing to help during the installation process.

    • 9

Install the new belt following your diagram. If you install the belt incorrectly, the mower could run in the wrong direction.

    • 10

Reattach the belt guards onto the mower deck and then slide the mower deck back under the Cub Cadet.

    • 11

Reattach the stabilizer bar and secure it with the pin. Place the lift arms onto the lawn tractor and secure them with the pins.

    • 12

Stretch the belt forward and place it on the PTO pulley. Again, manually rotate the pulley while you slip on the belt.

    • 13

Reattach the belt guard to the PTO pulley with the socket and ratchet.
