When purchasing a mower, consider the slope of the lawn, the size of the lawn and who will be mowing the lawn. You typically have a choice between three types of mowers: push mowers, self-propelled mowers and riding mowers.
Mowing your lawn is easier with a riding mower, but you have more control maneuvering over hills when using a self-propelled or push mower. Self-propelled lawn mowers have engines that push the wheels along, unlike regular push mowers that require more physical exertion. Riding mowers are excellent for large lawns, but tricky and dangerous to use on steep terrain.
Steep hills are dangerous for both walking mowers and riding mowers. To safely mow your lawn's hills, start at the bottom and work your way up. Mow your grass horizontally instead of vertically, since turning upward with a machine is easier and safer than turning downward.
