How to Remove a Rear Wheel on an MTD Yard Machine Riding Mower

MTD Yard Machine riding mowers are among the most popular models in use for larger yards and gardens. If you prefer to do routine maintenance functions yourself, knowing how to remove a rear wheel from the MTD Yard Machine is important. If you have properly maintained the mower according to the manufacturer's recommendations, you can remove the rear wheel assembly in 15 minutes with the proper tools and equipment.

Instructions

      Park the MTD riding mower on a firm, level surface. Turn the engine off, set the hand brake and remove the ignition key.

      Remove the hubcap from the wheel by placing the tip of a flathead screwdriver where the cap edge meets the wheel and prying up.

      Loosen the exposed bolt at the center of the wheel using an adjustable wrench. Turn the bolt approximately 1/2-turn counterclockwise. Do not yet remove the bolt.

      Raise the rear wheel of the mower a few inches by placing a jack under the axle casing close to the wheel. Place a jack stand next to the jack for added support and safety.

      Remove the rear wheel from the axle by pulling it straight off.
