How to Replace the Deck Belt on a Snapper Z2003

The Snapper Z2003K lawnmower is a zero-turn mower. This is a departure from the traditional rear wheel-driven lawn tractors designed and sold by Snapper. Instead of using a steering wheel, the mower uses a set of levers to control the speed and turning radius, which improves the mower's ability to cut grass in tight places. The mower uses a traditional drive belt to provide power from the engine to the mower deck. Just like with any Snapper lawn mower, on occasion, you must replace a worn-out drive belt on your zero-turn lawnmower.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the idler pulley on the top of the mower deck. The pulley rests towards the center of the deck and mounts to a spring-loaded pulley. On the mount, you will see a 3/8-inch square hole.

    • 2

Draw a diagram of the belts and how they route around the pulleys on the mower deck.

    • 3

Place a 3/8-inch ratchet driver into the square hole and rotate the idler pulley away from the deck belt. This releases tension on the deck belt.

    • 4

Lift the belt off the idler pulley and then slowly let go of the ratchet handle.

    • 5

Lift the mower deck belt off the remaining pulleys on the mower deck and then use your diagram to place the new belt onto all of the pulleys except for the idler pulley.

    • 6

Rotate the idler pulley with the 3/8-inch ratchet and then slide the belt over the idler pulley.

    • 7

Remove the 3/8-inch ratchet from the idler pulley bracket.
