How to Disconnect the Reverse Power Take-Off on a Cub Cadet 3185

The Cub Cadet 3185 is a lawn tractor that uses a power takeoff switch (PTO) and clutch system to engage the mower's cutting deck. In order to prevent accidents, the power takeoff clutch cannot be depressed or engaged if the mower is placed into reverse. The mechanism that prevents this is known as either the reverse PTO or reverse safety switch. It can be disconnected in order to make repairs.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the Cub's hood cover up and use a wrench to remove the negative battery cable.

Lower the mower's cutting deck to the lowest setting by moving the deck control lever. Also make sure the brake is engaged.

Locate the reverse PTO safety switch under the right side shifter. The switch can be accessed by removing a small piece of trim with a screwdriver. Disconnect the switch by grasping it and unplugging it from its socket.
