How to Remove the Tire From a Bolen's Riding Lawn Mower

When you look at the tires on your Bolens lawn mower you will notice a lack of lug nuts. Bolens mowers do not use a standard hub equipped with lug nuts. Instead, they use a single center bolt to secure their tires to the tractor's axle. In the event you get a flat tire, the process for removing the tire from the mower is actually straightforward and only requires basic hand tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Jack stand
  • Hydraulic jack (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Pry the plastic center cap of the castle nut mounted to the center bolt with a flathead screwdriver and then place the center cap off to the side.

    • 2

Bend the ends of the cotter pin straight. The cotter pin goes through the hole in the castle nut. Pull the cotter pin out of the castle nut with a pair of pliers.

    • 3

Loosen the castle nut with a socket and ratchet. Do not remove the nut at this time.

    • 4

Lift the corner of the Bolens lawn tractor up and place a jack stand under the rear axle or front suspension to hold the mower off the ground. If the mower is too heavy for you to lift one corner, jack the corner up with a hydraulic jack.
