Pull the hood release lever on the left front side (sitting in the mower), just behind the front bumper. Open the hood by tilting it forward over the front bumper. Disconnect both battery cables (negative first) from the top of the battery, with an open-end wrench. The battery is located in the front of the engine compartment.
Remove the radiator shroud bolts from the top rear face of the shroud with a ratchet and socket. Remove the radiator shroud by pulling it upward, to gain access to the engine cooling fan.
Insert a pry bar against the base of the one of the blades on the old cooling fan, with the tip of the pry bar pressed against the front of the engine block. Loosen the four-cooling fan mounting bolts on the front center of the fan. Remove the bolts by hand while holding a fan blade with your free hand. Remove the cooling fan from the fan hub.
Install the new cooling fan onto the hub. Install and tighten the mounting bolts with a 1/2-inch-drive ratchet and socket, to 40 foot-pounds of torque. Use the pry bar at the base of the blades to hold the fan in place while you torque the bolts. Set the tip of the pry bar against the front of the engine block.
Install the radiator shroud straight downwards, lining up the shroud with the mounting tabs at the bottom of the radiator. Tighten the shroud bolts snug with a ratchet and socket. Install the battery cables back onto the battery, positive first. Tighten the battery tie down nuts snug, then 1/4-turn farther to approximate the 8 to 10 foot-pounds needed (108 inch-pounds).
