How to Remove the Fuel Oil Filter Clamp on a John Deere 4600

The John Deere 4600 was produced from 1999 until 2003. The 4600 was equipped with a 43-horsepower Yanmar 4-cylinder diesel engine. The transmission on the 4600 had 9-forward gears and 3-reverse gears. The 4600 was available with a multitude of farming and agricultural attachments. The fuel filter housing is located on the left side of the engine on the 4600, and is an in-line fuel filter. The fuel filter housing and fuel filter ring must be installed in the same manner it was removed to ensure there are no leaks.

Instructions

    • 1

Raise the hood on the 4600, and set the hood props.

    • 2

Rotate the handle or fuel shut off valve on the filter housing, so that the fuel is shut off to the filter.

    • 3

Rotate the filter holding ring counterclockwise, using your hand wrapped in a rag for leverage. Use a set of large channel locks to remove the ring only if needed. Do not apply too much pressure to the ring, because you may crack or break the ring.

    • 4

Pull the ring downward with one hand, while supporting the weight of the fuel filter cover with your other hand. Do not let the filter cover fall.

    • 5

Installation is the opposite of removal for the fuel filter holding ring. Tighten the ring snug. No torque is necessary. Turn the fuel shut-off valve back to the open position to allow fuel to the filter.
