How to Troubleshoot a Husqvarna Mower

The Husqvarna mower can suffer from a number of common problems that plague engine-mounted lawn mowers. Low gasoline levels, mixed oil and gas, a faulty magnetic coil and an improperly fixed air gap could all be culprits behind the Husqvarna mower's running problems. Fortunately, you can fix your Husqvarna mower without the use of special tools and even if you have no experience with lawn mower troubleshooting and repair.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the gas levels of your Husqvarna mower if it doesn't start.

    • 2

Ensure you haven't inserted gasoline into the oil filler. If you attempted to run the mower it will have already made an obvious mess. You can fix this problem simply by draining the gasoline and oil mixture and starting over with pure oil. Do not run the Husqvarna mower again until the offending fluid is fully drained.

    • 3

Turn the mower off and allow it to cool down if it will not run and gas levels are appropriate. Open the plastic cover over the engine.

    • 4

Disconnect the plug wires that connect to the spark plugs.

    • 5

Locate the Husqvarna mower's magnetic coil. This coil can be found by following the lead from the disconnected plug wires to the back of the mower's engine assembly. There is a thin grounding wire that lies beside this coil. Pull the wire from this plug.

    • 6

Connect one of the plug wires into a spark plug and utilize insulated pliers to fix the spark plug against the Husqvarna mower's engine block.

    • 7

Try to start the mower while watching for sparks coming out of the area around the attached spark plug. If the sparks are yellow you will need to send the Husqvarna mower to the manufacturer to have its magnetic coil completely replaced.

    • 8

Check the Husqvarna mower's air gap if the mower produced no sparks at all. This gap is found between the flywheel at the very rear of the engine area and the magnetic coil. This gap must be properly narrow. Measure it to ensure it is between 0.010 and 0.015 inches, or ensure it is no thicker than a playing card or business card. Loosen the coil with a wrench if the gap is wider than this, then apply light pressure to close the gap accordingly.

Attempt to run the Husqvarna mower again. Blue sparks should appear. The mower will now run properly.
