How to Fix a Huskee Supreme Lawn Tractor

Whether you have acres of grass to cut in the summer time, or fields of leaves and mulch to suck up during the fall or winter, the Huskee Supreme lawn tractor, manufactured by Husqvarna, is designed to handle the workload. The Huskee Supreme is considered a sturdily-built machine, however, minor problems can sometimes occur, especially when the tractor's maintenance schedule is not closely followed. A simple review of common problems and troubleshooting techniques can usually get the Huskee back in working order.

Open the Huskee's engine compartment and turn the multimeter on. Set the multimeter to volts and attach the negative and positive test leads on the meter to the corresponding battery terminals. If the voltage is below 10 to 12 volts it requires a replacement. Loosen and pull the cables off with a wrench, lift the old battery out, place the new one in. Tighten the cables with the wrench.

    • 2

Take off the Huskee's spark plug wire. Remove the plug with a spark plug wrench. Clean off or install a brand new spark plug. If it has been at least over a year since the spark plug was replaced, changing the plug is a good idea. Install a new plug by twisting it back into the socket, tightening it with a spark plug wrench.

Check to make sure the wiring to the mower's ignition, starter and battery cables are all secure and that there are no loose connections. If there are any loose connections tighten them down with a screwdriver.

    • 4

Turn and take off the fuel cap and look to see if there is enough gasoline in the fuel tank. If the gas tank is low, fill the tank up with gas. Replace the gas cap after the tank is completely filled with gasoline.

    • 5

Remove the air filter cover, which rests on top of the carburetor on the engine. Remove the cover by unscrewing the small plastic screw. Set the cover aside and pull the filter out. Replace the filter with a new one if it is dirty.

Check the oil on the mower if the engine starts running loudly, or if there is more smoke than usual coming from the exhaust. Lift the engine compartment and pull the oil dipstick out. Wipe the dipstick with a rag, reinsert the dipstick and then pull it out again. Look to make sure that the oil level falls between the acceptable ranges marked by the indicators on the dipstick. If the oil is low, replace the dipstick, remove the oil fill cap and put a quart of oil in. Replace the cap once this is done.
