Lift the tractor's seat or look inside the engine compartment and remove the negative and positive battery cables with the wrench. Battery location will vary depending on the type of tractor you have.
Select a position on the tractor's dash where you will mount the tachometer. Wipe it clean with a shop rag.
Set the tachometer against the mounting area on the tractor's dash panel and mark the mounting holes with a pencil.
Drill holes where the pencil markings were made. Also drill a larger hole directly in the center, for the tachometer wires.
Mount the tachometer to the dash panel by holding it in place, inserting the mounting screws and tightening them down with a screwdriver.
Run the tachometer's black ground wire to a spot on the tractor frame and attach it with a bolt or screw. If there are no bolts readily available for attaching the wire, drill a small hole on the frame and use a metal screw to attach the ground wire.
Wrap the tachometer's green wire around the green wire running to the tractor's ignition. Connect the yellow wire to the yellow ignition wire.
Cut a piece of wire long enough to reach from the back of the tachometer to the battery cables. Strip both ends of the wire with a wire stripper. Attach one end to the red wire running from the tachometer. Run the rest of the wire to the battery. Attach an O-ring to that end of the red wire and then position it on the positive battery cable.
