How to Take Off a Tire on a John Deere 160

The John Deere LT160 lawn tractor is a riding lawn mower that offers you the ability to mow your lawn while sitting comfortably on its seat. Just like car tires, your John Deere riding mower may need occasional tire maintenance. Removing a tire from your John Deere mower only takes a few minutes and allows you the ability to replace a blown or punctured tire without having to have your mower serviced by a professional.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a jack stand under each side of your John Deere LT160 tractor. Depending on which tire you need to change, you should place the two jack stands under the tractor at either the front or the back of the tractor. Place the jack stands close to the interior side of the tires against the body of the tractor.

    • 2

Position your lifting device under the center of your tractor, either at the front or back of the tractor. The lifting device should be between your two jack stands.

    • 3

Wedge a block of wood under the tires that you will not be raising, to prevent them from moving.

    • 4

Raise the tractor by using your lifting device.

    • 5

Grasp the plastic cap located in the center of the rim and pull it off to uncover the snap ring. The cap snaps on and off, so you should be able to pull it off with ease. Wear protective goggles to ensure proper eye safety.

    • 6

Clamp your snap ring pliers onto the snap ring and remove it.

    • 7

Grasp the tire with two hands and pull it off the axle.
