What Can You Do With a John Deere Mower?

The John Deere Company, one of the country's leading distributors of outdoor power equipment, was founded by a blacksmith in 1837. The company makes, among other products, both walk-behind mowers and riding mowers for the residential market. Although the primary purpose of these machines is to cut lawns, they perform other important functions as well.
  1. Cutting

    • John Deere mowers let you cut yards of various sizes. Their walk-behind mowers work well for mowing smaller yards, while riding lawn mowers cut down on the time needed to mow a larger yard. For example, you can cut a 1-acre yard in 1 hour with a riding mower, but it will take you 2 to 3 1/2 hours with a walk-behind mower, according to the University of Arizona.

    Landscaping

    • Various attachments distributed by John Deer allow you to perform important landscaping activities, such as tilling and cultivating the soil or spreading fertilizer or seed. The company also sells a line of utility carts, allowing you to haul your garden materials easily or move large objects. The attachments hook on to the front or back of the riding mowers. Some attachments require a separate hitch, called an integral hitch.

    Snow

    • John Deere attachments turn your riding mower into a snow remover by simply connecting the appropriate attachment to the mainframe. The attachments include 44- to 54-inch-wide snow blowers as well as front blades that push the snow aside. The company also make a 52-inch sweeper attachment that can move up to 2 inches of snow. The sweeper functions as a sidewalk and driveway cleaner during the summer and rakes leaves in autumn.

    Other

    • John Deere mowers let you bag your clippings with various types of baggers for both riding and walk-behind mowers. Walk-behind mowers come with a 2 1/2-bushel bagger. Some riding mowers can hook up to baggers that hold up to 14 bushels. The company makes a 15-gallon sprayer for its EZtrak series of riding mowers that allows you to spray herbicide or liquid fertilizer over a wide expanse of lawn.
