How to Take the Bottom Hub Off a Toro Mower

Toro is an American turf and snow equipment manufacturer based in Bloomington, Minnesota. The bottom hub or blade hub is located on the underside of all Toro lawnmowers beneath the plastic shield; the hub holds and spins the blades when the engine is running, providing the mower's cutting ability. You might want to remove the hub if you are planning to sharpen or change the mower blades or take the mower apart for maintenance. Removing the bottom hub is straightforward providing the necessary precautions are taken.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the lawnmower and allow the engine to cool for around 20 minutes.

    • 2

Turn the lawnmower on its side so the air filter is facing up and the blades are exposed.

    • 3

Place a block of wood next to the blade to stop it spinning round. Stand on the block to stop it moving.

    • 4

Place the torque wrench over the bolt in the middle of the hub where the blades meet.

    • 5

Remove the bolt by turning the wrench counter-clockwise. Carefully remove the blade and the mounting hardware, setting all the pieces aside. The bottom hub is now removed.
