Unscrew your Cub Cadet riding lawn mower's fuel cap and make sure there is gasoline in the tank. Refill it if necessary.

    • 2

Put a splash of gasoline in the fuel tank if there is old fuel that has been left over in the tank from a previous season. Turn on the mower and burn all this fuel away before refilling the engine exclusively with fresh gasoline.

    • 3

Pop the front hood of the Cub Cadet riding lawn mower if you were unable to start the machine. Ensure the spark plug is still connected to the single-pronged, black wire at the side of the engine assembly. Connect the plug wire to the rear of the spark plug if it was disconnected.

Disconnect the wire from the old spark plug and replace it if the Cub Cadet riding lawn mower will still not start. Insert the replacement spark plug and connect the wire into its back.

Check the battery and ensure the red positive wire and the black negative wire at each of its sides are connected over the battery's bolts. Refit these cables over the bolts and tighten them into place with a socket wrench if necessary. Turn the bolt clockwise with the socket wrench to tighten it.

Follow the other end of the battery's red wire to the Cub Cadet riding lawn mower's solenoid located between the battery and the motor. Ensure it is connected to the solenoid. If not, reattach it to the solenoid's side bolt using your socket wrench.
