Instructions

    • 1

Park the lawn mower. Ensure it is on an even, level surface. Turn the mower off and make sure the Toro Timecutter 14-38Z's PTO switch is on the "off" position.

    • 2

Find the mower-deck lift lever on the right side of the fender deck. Push this lever to the forward-most position. This will put the Toro Timecutter 14-38Z's deck in its lowest position.

    • 3

Open the engine cover of the Toro Timecutter 14-38Z mower and disconnect the ignition wire from the spark plug.

    • 4

Find the PTO clutch on the bottom of the Briggs & Stratton engine. It will bear a compact housing and will have the mower's belt routed around it. Clean the PTO clutch with a wire brush if there is any build-up or debris, and then wipe it down with a cloth.

    • 5

Note the three thin, rectangular slots on the PTO clutch. These are the adjustment slots.

    • 6

Insert the feeler gauge into the first adjustment slot. You should feel the armature face and the rotor on either side of the feeler gauge. If these parts are not touching the gauge, the gap inside is too large and must be adjusted.

    • 7

Use a socket wrench on the Toro Timecutter 14-38Z mower's first adjustment slot. There is a large bolt on this slot that can be turned with the wrench to tighten the adjustment slot. Continue to tighten it until the rotor and armature face can be felt against the feeler gauge.

    • 8

Measure each of the other adjustment slots with your feeler gauge and adjust them if necessary in the same manner you did the first adjustment slot.

    • 9

Reconnect the Toro Timecutter 14-38Z's ignition wire to the back of the spark plug. Close the engine cover.
