Instructions

    • 1

Ensure your Cub Cadet AGS 2160 mower has fuel in the gas tank.

    • 2

Get rid of any old fuel in your Cub Cadet AGS 2160 mower that may have been left in the tank for months. Add a little new gas to the old gas in your tank, then turn on the lawn mower and allow it to run until all the gas burns away. Refill the tank entirely with fresh gas.

    • 3

Check the engine assembly of the Cub Cadet AGS 2160 mower if it still won't start and run properly. Open the front hood of the riding mower to reveal the engine.

    • 4

Replace the Cub Cadet AGS 2160 mower's spark plug if the spark plug is showing visible wear, has corrosion on it or if the white insulator ring at the end of the plug is blistered and showing multiple black spots. Disconnect the black ignition wire from the spark plug and pull it out. Insert the new spark plug and connect the ignition wire into it.

    • 5

Check the battery. The black, negative terminal wire and the red, positive terminal wire should be attached to their respective sides on the battery via the battery's two bolts. Fit each end of the wire(s) back over the bolt(s) if necessary, then tighten them into place over the bolts with a socket wrench.

    • 6

Follow the other end of the Cub Cadet's red, positive terminal wire to the solenoid, which you will find between the battery and the Briggs & Stratton engine. This wire must connect to the bolt located on the side of the solenoid. Tighten the wire back onto the solenoid's bolt using your socket wrench.

    • 7

Ensure the wire harness is properly in place over the Cub Cadet's solenoid. This wire harness is composed of a number of smaller wires that should be in contact with the metal conductors on the face of the solenoid. If the wires are not making contact with these conductor points, you'll need to adjust the harness. Slide a knife or similar tool under the retainer clip on the wire harness and pry upward to disengage the clip.

    • 8

Adjust the wire harness as necessary to ensure the wires made contact with the solenoid's conductors.

    • 9

Snap the retainer clip back down into place to secure it to the Cub Cadet's solenoid.
