How to Install an MTD OEM-190-215 Sunshade

If you do any large amount of mowing on your MTD mower, you could likely benefit from the installation of an MTD Sun shade. A Sun shade is a canopy that attaches to the back of the mower. It rests several feet above the mower to provide shade from the Sun to the mower operator. The process of installing a Sun shade is simple because MTD built in the necessary mounting points when they manufactured your mower.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift up the seat on your lawn tractor and remove the nut and bolt that holds the seat to the pivot bracket using a wrench. Place the spacer into the mounting hole on the seat’s bracket and then place the left base tube onto the seat bracket with 5/16-inch, 1 1/2-inch long bolt supplied with the Sun shade. Repeat the process with the right side of the seat. The base tubes are the tubes with a 90-degree elbows bent into them.

    • 2

Slide the outer cross tube and the inner cross tube together and secure them to the ends of the right and left base tubes with two 1/4-inch by 1 1/2-inch bolts and 1/4-inch nuts supplied with the kit. This stabilizes and squares up the base tubes.

    • 3

Place the upright tubes into the top of the base tubes where you locate the 90 degree bends. The upright tubes have holes in the end. Line the holes up with the holes in the base tubes. Secure the upright tubes to the base tubes with 1/4-inch by 1 1/4-inch long bolts supplied with the kit.

    • 4

Place the top tubes onto the upright tubes but do not secure them with the bolts. Slide the rubber end caps onto the end of the tubes.

    • 5

Slip the nylon loops on the Sun shade’s rear mesh portion onto the top tubes. Slide all the loops onto the upright tubes and position the shade in place so it starts at the bottom of the upright tubes and extends up and around the top tubes.

    • 6

Secure the upright tubes to the top tubes with ¼-inch by 1 ¼-inch bolts.

    • 7

Slide the short support rod into the holes at the very end of the top tubes and then secure the short support rod with ¼-inch by 1 ¼-inch bolts.
